Abstract

AbstractThe kinetics of oxidation of nitrite to nitrate by peroxomonophosphoric acid in aqueous acid medium have been studied. The observed monotonic fall in rate with increasing pH of the medium has been rationalized on the basis of proton‐dissociation equilibria of the substrate as well as the oxidant species. It is found that only HNO2 reacts with the different PMPA species.
