Abstract
The flow of a viscous fluid with a free surface realized during the filling of a vertical round pipe with a coaxial central body in the gravity field is numerically simulated. The mathematical formulation of the problem includes the Navier—Stokes and continuity equations discretized using the control volume method, together with the correcting SIMPLE procedure. The natural boundary conditions on the free surface are satisfied by means of the method of invariants. A parametric investigation of the filling process is carried out. The criterial dependences of the free surface shape parameters on the main dimensionless parameters of the problem are obtained. The mass distribution pattern is studied.
