Abstract
RHEED patterns of the Si(111)7 × 7 surface in the [112̄] direction taken at several angles of incidence are analyzed by kinematical calculations. The calculations are carried out for the DAS (dimer-adatom-stacking-fault) structure with changes of 200 atomic positions. We also test for new models proposed recently. Comparing the experimental RHEED patterns and rocking curves with the calculated ones, good agreement is obtained for the DAS model with the adatom positions about 1.3 Å above the stacking fault layer, which is deduced from recent dynamical calculations of RHEED and LEED. The efficiency of the kinematical calculation is also discussed.
