Abstract

The area of interest in the text is the assumed activity of the kindergarten as an institution that is assumed to support the development of the child. The inspiration and justification for undertaking the consideration of this issue are both the content of the dominant discourses on childhood and the importance of early education. The interpretative perspective of the kindergarten activity has been established as one of the concepts of pedagogization, for which the axial category is the facilitation of the child’s development. In order to answer the formulated research questions, the content of the Core Curriculum of Preschool Education was analysed. The most important conclusion of the research is expressed in the statement that regardless of the fact that the kindergarten is to support the child’s development in four key areas, the support is fragmentary in nature emphasizing the competences related mainly to the readiness for school.
