Abstract

A bibliography of 334 references on kin selection theory and kinship behavior is presented. Citations are grouped into sections on theory (“Kinship Theory,” “Inbreeding and Kinship Effects,” and “Kinship Effects Within the Family”) and empirical studies (“Kinship Effects in Insects and Other Ectotherms.” “Kinship Effects in Birds,” “Kinship Effects in Nonprimate Mammals,” “Kinship Effects in Nonhuman Primates,” and “Kinship Effects in Humans”). In the introductory section, many of the papers are reviewed in order to further organize the literature on kin selection theory. It is hoped that researchers in the biological and social sciences, as well as beginning students, will find this annotated bibliography a useful overview of one of the major areas of research in sociobiology, behavioral ecology, and ethology.
