Abstract

On-premises ERP applications have been widely used by organization to support business operation. Successful implementations depend on a well aligned ecosystem of vendors, consultants, and user organizations. With the emergence of cloud computing, ERP vendors are starting to offer cloud ERP solutions based on the software as a service (SaaS) model. Cloud ERP solutions alter the balance of power, technological setup, and needed competences in the ERP ecosystem. This study aims to explore the impact of the shift to cloud ERP on the practices of ERP consultants. Based on a series of interviews with ERP consultants, our analysis shows that consultants should adapt by improving and changing their skills and by building new partnership with cloud ERP vendors. Finally, we develop an initial model of the ERP implementation ecosystem that shows that integrate our results.
