Abstract

This study investigated whether there were any significant differences between the syntactic and articulatory development of kibbutz and city children in Israel. Ninety children between the ages of three and four and a half years were administered a Hebrew adaptation of the Northwestern Syntax Screening Test and a Hebrew articulation test. Receptive and expressive language ability at this age were found to be superior among kibbutz children. There was no significant difference in the overall number of articulation errors made: however, there was a significantly higher rate of sibilant disorders among the kibbutz children.
