Abstract

In the Oban massif of southeastern Nigeria, Rb/Sr isotopic study of amphibolites shows that the emplacement and main phase of metamorphism of these rocks occurred 1313 ± M.a. ago. The banded variety of these amphibolites produced a Rb/Sr whole-rock isochron age of 784 ± 31 M.a. This age is a record of an isotopic destabilization at the boundary of the Kibaran and the Pan-African orogenesis in southeastern Nigeria.
