Abstract

Based on the fact that folk tales contain the subtleties and cultural codes of the language in a simple but functional way, a 4-week, 320-minute fairy tale activity was held with bilingual children living in Sweden whose native language is Turkish. The purpose of this study is to emphasize students' awareness of tales and their importance in transferring cultural values by evaluating their language development. This research method was designed as a descriptive study, one of the qualitative research methods. During the research process, twenty students between the ages of 8-13 who participated in the activity were interviewed as a sample. Within the framework of the qualitative method, the opinions of the students in the focus group were taken on the subject. As a data collection tool, a survey form containing open-ended questions was applied at the beginning and end of the activity, and analysis and inferences were made based on the answers given.
