Abstract

The use of questions requiring association and imagination is one of the effective methods to elicit and develop student’s association and imagination. There are different types of questions requiring association and imagination: that of the relationship between characters and setting, space and time; that of images, symbols, characters of one artwork with another. Through students’ association and imagination they will be able to comprehend the work more deeply. This paper is to present the results of the practical survey of using questions in teaching Vietnamese medieval literature in grade 10 at Chau Van Liem high school in CanTho city from October, 2015 to February, 2016. Data collected in this research are from the questionnaires, class reports, teacher and student interviews on using questions to enhance image association and imagination. Two purposes of the research included (1) teachers’ perception of the role of using questions to enhance students’ association and imagination; (2) question types used by teachers to develop students’ ability of associating and imaginating.
