Abstract

Project management in the Oil and Gas Industry (OGI) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is vibrant in nature due to various factors. Delivering a successful project is the ultimate goal of every project manager. However, failures are common and frequent in delivering projects within in the stipulated time schedules, within budget, without reports of HSE (Health, security and Environment) incidents and with ultimate satisfaction of the client/end user. The pace of project implementation and delivery depend upon factors, some of which are beyond the control of project managers and could put the project success at stake. Therefore, it is required that project key performance indicators (KPI) are identified which have the most relevance in OGI. The main objective of the study presented in this paper was to determine the key performance indicators for OGI. Based on the qualitative data and information collected through this study, a confirmation of the role that KPIs played in cost, time and quality was recorded. Additionally, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) were found to be criteria for other KPIs when assessing a project’s success. Users’ satisfaction level is an additional parameter that contributed to a project’s success.
