Abstract

MoSi2 based ceramics have great potential for high temperature heating element applications. In this paper, MoSi2-UHTC ceramics were produced by pressureless sintering by introducing ZrB2-20 vol% SiC ultra high temperature ceramic as additives. The key issues of the MoSi2-UHTC ceramics for ultra high temperature heating element applications, including mechanical, electrical, oxidation and thermal shock behaviors, were investigated. The aim of the study was to evaluate the possibility and ability of MoSi2-UHTC ceramics for high temperature heating element applications.
