Abstract
Aiming for the development of next-generation solar cells having super high efficiency with low cost, a series of R&D studies on a-Si//poly or µc (microcrystalline or nanocrystalline)-Si thin-film stacked solar cells are introduced in this chapter. First, the basic concept of the multibandgap stacked solar cell and its historical background on the selection of material combinations are explained with an optimum design theory. It has been shown from the results of isoenergy mapping of the material combinations that plasma-CVD-produced amorphous silicon (a-Si) for the top cell with polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) or microcrystalline silicon (µc-Si) would be the best combination of materials in view not only of the value of energy gaps but also the abundance of natural resources with cost.KeywordsSolar CellEfficiency ImprovementTransparent Conductive OxideActive Layer ThicknessTandem Solar CellThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
