Abstract
A road constructed on a subgrade of Keuper marl experienced failure in areas of cut following the trafficking of the road base by construction traffic. Laboratory tests carried out on the subgrade material subsequent to failure showed the material strength to be very sensitive to moisture content. This paper attempts to relate strength in terms of CBR to a non-dimensional condition index, based upon moisture content and plasticity index, so that comparison with similar materials can be made. For the covering abstract of the symposium see IRRD 286603. (Author/TRRL)
