Abstract

The interaction of aldehydes, ketones, and amines with the organometallic Lewis acids [CpRuL 1L 2] +, where L 1 = CO or PPh 3 and L 2 = PPh 3, have been investigated, A series of Lewis acid-base adducts has been synthesized and characterized. Stable [CpRuL 1L 2(η 1-HNCHPh)] + complexes were isolated in high yields as the SbF 6 − or PF 6 − salts. X-Ray crystallographic analysis confirmed the η 1-binding mode of the imine in [CpRu(PPh 3) 2(HNCHPh)]PF 6 and the aldehyde carbonyl in [CpRu(PPh 3)(CO)(cinnamaldehyde)]PF 6. The effects of conformational isomerism in these systems have been investigated.
