Abstract

: Early Writing Difficulties in Early Childhood with Mild Mental Retardation Disorders. This study aims to determine the difficulty in writing of mentally retarded children and to find out the cause of the writing difficulty. This study uses qualitative descriptive case study. The subjects were 6 children at Sekolah Luar Biasa in Manado. The data were collected through observations and interviews.The data were also based on some analyses of relevant documents. The results show that writing difficulties in children with mental retardation include 1) difficulties in writing complete words (without missing letter), 2) diffi­culties in sequencing letters, 3) difficulties in letters without upside-down position, and difficulties in dif­ferentiating letters and numbers with similar shapes. The writing difficulties were due to the low concen­tration ability, auditory-memory capacity, visual-motoric perception, and inteligence.
