Abstract

Kernels from a bulk population of the octoploid Triticale strain “Kagawa” were separated into three categories of size and quality. The frequency of euploids was significantly higher in the large kernel class than in the two other classes. The possible value of this screening method is discussed. Some plants with chromosome numbers close to the 4x level were found in the progeny of medium and small kernels. Their origin and properties are discussed.
