Abstract

Sjogren’s syndrome (SS) is divided into 2 categories: primary SS (ISS) and secondary SS (2SS). 2SS is similar to ISS but occurs in conjunction with one of several collagen diseases. While SS usually affects tear and saliva production, few reports have compared the degree of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) in SS to findings from the salivary glands and systemic conditions. The purpose of this study is to compare the degree of KCS with the degree of dry mouth and the level of serum antibody titers in SS patients diagnosed using the Japanese criteria Additionally, because the symptoms of ISS are not usually differentiated from those of 2SS, we have compared these two forms of SS to each other.
