Abstract
As well as the location of a city, improvement and the change of economic functions play an important role in the development of that city. Industries that were set up outside or close by the settlements have been sliding and staying in the cities because of the growing of the cities and fields of activities. Izmir Ataturk Organized Industrial Site that is in the Cigli district is an example of urban industry. Industry activities cause some changes in the economy, environment and socio culture here. The purpose of this study is to state the perceptions of the people living near the IAOSB, about these activities. Local communities’ approaches to these urban industries are important to their sustainability. At this study, questionnaire technique was used to determine these approaches. According to the results, majority of the subjects stated that urban industries reduce the unemployment and create new job opportunities. Industrialization and environmental issues create the thought that ‘industries create some serious environmental issues’. Another result from the study shows that more than one third of the participants believe that industries increase the education level of the public and have a positive effect on the life style of the people.

Önem kazanmasında veya önemini kaybetmesinde etkili olan yerel ve bölgesel lokasyonu yanında, sahip olduğu ekonomik fonksiyonların gelişim ve değişim süreci de önemlidir. Bu sanayi odaklarından biri olan İzmir Atatürk Organize Sanayi Bölgesi 1990 yılında üretim. Kent içi sanayileşmenin en iyi örneklerinden biri olan Çiğli ilçesindeki İzmir Atatürk Organize Sanayi Bölgesi bu araştırmanın çalışma alanını oluşturmaktadır. Sanayinin bu yöne doğru genişlemesi ve aynı zamanda bu kesimde yer alan mahallelerde sanayi alanına doğru ortaya çıkan konut yoğunlaşmaları, kentsel gelişimi de bu yönde şekillendirmiştir. Zamanla kent içi sanayi haline gelen İAOSB çevresindeki yerleşmelerde de; çevresel, ekonomik ve sosyokültürel birtakım değişiklikleri ortaya çıkarmıştır. İlk dönemlerde kentsel ölçekte bir öneme sahip olan İAOSB bugün bölgesel ve ulusal ölçekte paya sahiptir. Araştırma Sahasının Lokasyonu 1982 yılında kurulan ve 1990 yılında faaliyete geçen İzmir Atatürk Organize Sanayi. Araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturan bu mahallerde anket soruları özellikle sanayiye çok yakın veya içinde kalmış ailelere uygulanmıştır
