Kennett is a comprehensive, two-volume text which links the theory of wave propagation in elastic and anelastic media with the observation of seismic waves from earthquakes and explosions in the Earth. Most textbooks on seismology concentrate on theory; Kennett not only provides a refreshing approach to the theory of wave propagation and the physical processes within the Earth which control seismic waves, but places heavy emphasis on the seismic observations themselves, especially recent broad-band seismic observation. …
