Abstract

The importance of mathematical communication skills is the background of this research. An appropriate learning model is needed to improve mathematical communication skills, such as the Group Investigation and Team Quiz cooperative learning models. The purpose of the study was to examine the differences in students' mathematical communication skills with the two learning models. The research is a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The population is all students of class X of one of the SMK in Garut, with a sample of two classes. The instrument is in the form of a mathematical communication ability test and a student learning independence questionnaire. The results showed that the difference in students' mathematical communication skills in the two classes only occurred in moderate learning independence. As for the upgrade quality, for the Group Investigation class, all the upgrade qualities have a moderate interpretation. As for the Team Quiz class, in terms of low and medium learning independence, it has a low interpretation, while for high learning independence it has a medium interpretation.
