Abstract
The ill-posedness of the two-phase flow problems is explicitly related to the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability of two compressible fluid layers. A long wavelength formulation of the Kelvin-Helmholtz problem is derived. Various features of this formulation are explored briefly.
