Abstract

This research examines the socio-economic life of women mat makers in Pantai Cermin Kiri Village, Serdang Bedagai Regency. This study aims to determine the socio-economic life of a group of women mat craftsmen in Pantai Cermin Kiri Village, Serdang Bedagai Regency. The theory used in this study is about the allocation of women at home and work, social and economic life, and women as breadwinners. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach. In the discovery of the sample used in this study is the data technique through the method of Observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study were five people or heads of families consisting of a group of women mat makers and family members (husbands). The results of this study indicate that: (1) The social life of women mat makers is well established, especially with family members as well as the interactions, cooperation and skills they develop with fellow mat makers. The division of working time for women mat makers can be arranged well between household and work. (2). The economic life of women mat makers has many benefits including experiencing family welfare, women as breadwinners can improve social status and authority in decision makers in the family.
