Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness and improvement of students in writing poetry by using audio visual media for junior high school students of class VIII and to illustrate several factors that influence student improvement in writing poetry. This research is classroom action research. However, each cycle uses four stages, namely planning, action, observation, evaluation and reflection. The results showed that learning to write poetry using audio visual media can improve students' skills in writing poetry. In the first cycle students experience difficulties in the learning process of writing poetry, in the second cycle students begin to understand the inner elements in writing poetry, then in the third and fourth cycles students are able to understand the inner elements contained in the poem that are displayed by someone reciting a poem.
