Abstract
This research was conducted with the purpose of identifying the ability to write essays in Arabic among students of the Bachelor of Arabic Language in public universities. A total of 283 students from four public universities i.e. Universiti Malaya (26 students), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (41 students), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (86 students), and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (130 students) participated in this research. Data collected was analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) versi 22.0. A simple descriptive analysis method i.e. means score analysis is used to obtain findings. The overall findings show that the students’ ability to write essays in Arabic in the public universities chosen is average with a mean of USIM (min=3.34), UNISZA (min=3.60), UKM (min=3.50) dan UM (min=3.50). The findings indirectly describe problems faced by students in public universities in their Arabic essay writing skills. Thus this research identifies and exposes every problem faced by university students in their essay writing skills in the Arabic language.
