Abstract

The purpose of this study, which was conducted in the year 2012-2013, is to identification of weed species found in sugar beet cultivation area in Kayseri province. 100 survey were made in sugar beet cultivation field in Kayseri center (Kocasinan, Melikgazi) and it’s districts (Yesilhisar, Sarioglan, Develi, Bunyan, Pinarbasi). This study was performed in 120.129 da area which is 85% of the total sugar beet cultivation area of Kayseri. 56 different weed species from 18 families were determined in this study. As considering the number of the weeds in one m2 in the fields, the most trouble weed that was faced is red pigweed ( Amaranthus retroflexus L.) with the density of 4.01 plants/m2. Followed by 2.41 plants/m2 with white goosefoot ( Chenopodium album L.), 2.22 plants/m2 with barnyard grass ( Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P.Beauv), 1.96 plants/m2 adhesive foxtail ( Setaria verticilllata L.), 1.45 plants/m2 to field bindweed ( Convolvulus arvensis L.). Species which are important in terms of frequency of occurrence is white goosefoot ( Chenopodium album L.) by 100%, red pigweed ( Amaranthus retroflexus L.) by 96%, field bindweed ( Convolvulus arvensis L.) by 82%, common cocklebur ( Xanthium strumarium L.) by 68%, lying amaranth ( Amaranthus blitoides L.) by 60%, barnyard grass ( Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P. Beauv) by 49%, dodder ( Cuscuta sp.) by 46% were determined.
