Abstract

Kawasaki Steel’s two integrated steel works, Chiba and Mizushima, produce high quality slabs while keeping high productivity. The steelmaking technologies which provide the high quality and competitive slabs are : –hot metal pretreatment for obtaining the cost- minimum phosphorus content in the melt charged to BOFs ; –optimized operation to produce clean steel ; –continuous casting technology for eliminating the origin of surface defects of sheet products, e.g. molten steel flow control in the casting mould and direct rolling without any scarfing.
