Abstract

The autochthonous people in Caucasus called Circassians were experienced one of the most brutal tragedies of the humankind in the 19th century.Circassians’ independence struggles in 19th century against Tsarist Russia took 300 years and the date of May 21, 1864 has been the symbol of this struggle since then. This asymmetric war that ended in 1864 is an extraordinary struggle that hasn’t been demystified globally, yet. The wars between Caucasus and Russia, Circassians ended up with defeat of Circassians and majority of Circassians lost their lives. Except for a small minority the rest of Circassians was expelled from their homelands to various parts of the world including The Ottoman Empire. This chain of tragedies noted down in history as “Circassian Migration” includes the dimensions which can not be approached only as “ migration”. In this article, experienced events were evaluated and described in detail including the concepts of “exile” and “genocide”.
