Abstract

Kauhale o Limaloa is a methodology for teaching creative process and visual image‐ or object‐making that is grounded in Kanaka Maoli, or indigenous Hawaiian, knowledge and values. Developed in 2005 as a counter to the government curriculum for art education in Hawai‘i and the Pacific, Kauhale o Limaloa is a culturally grounded initiative that emphasizes indigenous and heritage knowledge as a primary medium of inquiry, creativity, and innovation development.
