Abstract

Cell suspension cultures of Glycine max, Phaseolus aureus, Cicer arietinum and Petroselinum hortense were shown to catabolize (α - 14C) - 4′,6-dihydroxyaurone as measured by 14CO 2 production and isolation of ( 14C)- p-hydroxybenzoic acid. Aurone catabolism in plants is thus comparable with the degradation of chalcones flavanones and flavonols because in all cases the B-ring is liberated as a substituted benzoic acid.
