Abstract
Studies were made of the morphology and karyotype of accessions ofH. asper,H. cannabinusandH. surattensis. There were six simple epicalyx segments inH. asper, nine inH. cannabinusand ten branched and leafy epicalyx segments inH. surattensis. Karyotypic analysis of the species showed a preponderance of median centromeres.H. surattensishad a more symmetrical karyotype and smaller chromosomes thanH. asperandH. cannabinus.H. asperhad the longest chromosomes. Ten of their chromosomes were significantly different in length, while four were significantly different in arm ratio.
