Abstract

Karyological investigations on five desmid taxa are reported. The range of chromosome numbers was found to vary from n = 8 to n = 130 ± 2. Chromosome numbers of Desmidium aptogonum (n = 8), Cosmarium subturgidum (n = 28) and C. hammeri (n = 48 ± 1) are first reports, while the chromosome numbers obtained for Closterium moniliferum (n = 70 ± 2) and Cl. acerosum (n = 130 ± 2) are new records.
