Abstract

Summary A karyological analysis of Erucastrum palustre (Pirona) Vis., endemic to the low plain of Friuli (Italy), and of a population of Val d'Aosta of E. nasturtiifolium (Poiret) O. E. Schulz subsp. nasturtiifolium was carried out. For E. palustre, of which no previous data are known, the chromosome number 2n=32 has been counted. Also E. nasturtiifolium subsp. nasturtiifolium presents 2n=32, with a number of accessory chromosomes varying from 0 to 2; this results the first tetraploid number releved on a wild population of this taxon. In addition, a comparison was made with all the karyological data already available for the other taxa of Erucastrum. The genus results karyologically heterogeneous, presenting four basic chromosome numbers (x = 7, 8, 9, 15).
