Abstract
Summary Taking into account the need of the Republic of Lithuania for mapping, the rewiew of the Europeen and other countries experience in mapping scales, projections, reference ellipsoides, etc. is presented. Characteristics of used projections especialy there of Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) have been investigated. The following conclusion has been reached: one UTM projection zone with 24° cetral meridian (gains an advantage) for the future use instead of two Gauss-Krueger zone projections being in use now.
