Abstract

Karl Lindner was a student of Friedrich Ahnefeld, a trailblazer of anaesthesiology and emergency medicine in the 1970s and 1980s, who was head of the Anaesthesiology Department at the University of Ulm, Germany. Karl quickly rose through the ranks in the early 1980s and became deputy head of the Department of Anaesthesiology. During this time, he met his anaesthesiology colleague and future wife, Ingrid, who came from near the Shakespeare town of Stratford-upon-Avon and had joined an exchange program with the University Hospital of Ulm.
