Abstract

Abstract Three samples of the micaceous gneiss outcropping in the western part of the Mylonite Zone in western Värmland, south-western Sweden, were dated by the K—Ar method. The resulting model ages vary between 878 and 968 million years. At present, the only possible interpretation of these ages is that they are due to the regional Ar-degassing in southwestern Sweden. The result, however, eliminates any possibility of interpreting the Mylonite Zone as a feature younger than the last known period of metamorphism.
