Abstract

Results from the August 1 Republican primary election for the Kansas State Board of Education gave a clear majority to those who oppose controversial standards the board adopted on August 11, 1999, which deemphasized the teaching of evolution in public schools. Even if some primary winners lose in the November 7 general election, their rivals also oppose the standards.
