Kanonik Michał Pisarski (1729-1794) w świetle akt czynności Chełmskiej Kapituły Katedralnej obrządku łacińskiego

Abstract

The books of the meetings of the Chełm cathedral chapter of the Latin rite are valuable sources for the research on the history of this institution. What is more, these books contain information on the life and work of its individual members. Rev. Michał Pisarski was born into the gentry in 1729. As a young man, he joined the Society of Jesus, where he was properly formed and well educated. In several Jesuit schools he taught rhetoric, mathematics, philosophy, canon law and theology. Due to the dissolution of this religious order, he was compelled to become a diocesan priest. He first became a canon in one of the collegiate churches in Lviv. In 1782 he joined the canons of the Chełm cathedral chapter in Krasnystaw, where he did his duties zealously. He regularly participated in the meetings of the chapter and willingly took on other obligations. He was entrusted with responsible administrative and economic missions. He repeatedly represented the chapter’s interests in the situations involving large capital resources. Rev. Pisarski was also a benefactor of the chapter making a considerable financial contribution to it throughout his life (a total of 51 000 PLN). Using part of his resources, the chapter made a commitment to celebrate a liturgy for his soul every year. Rev. Pisarski died in 1794. In 2015, his well-preserved portrait was identified in the Museum of the 200th Anniversary of the Archdiocese of Lublin.
