Abstract

Dan Alistarh, Editor of the "Distributed Computing" SIGACT column, asked me if I might be interested in publishing a written version of the perspective I gave at DISC 2021 upon receiving the 2021 Dijkstra Prize for the PODC 1983 paper I wrote with Paris Kanellakis on "CCS Expressions, Finite State Processes, and Three Problems of Equivalence". Paris and I also published a journal version with the same title in Information & Computation (1990). I took Dan up on his kind invitation because it would give me a proper forum to thank all of the people who helped make this award happen. Also, it allows me to fill in some other gaps in my earlier remarks. So thank you, Dan, for this opportunity!
