Abstract
The book ‘Kampf und Kompromiss’ (Struggle and Compromise) deals with the reception of the work of the constitutional lawyer and political scientist Otto Kirchheimer in the USA and the Federal Republic of Germany since the 1960s. Kirchheimer's work is characterised by a wide range of historical analyses of the limits of politics and law in modern democracies and dictatorships. The four chapters of the book are devoted chronologically to the phases of Otto Kirchheimer's work. The first chapter deals with the reception of his analysis of politics and law in the Weimar Republic, the second with his criminological writings and analyses of National Socialism, the third with the reception of his writings on the catch-all party and the last with his work on polit-ical justice. The book is aimed at all those interested in political science, jurisprudence and sociology.
