Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the application of the Kalman filter to estimate the parameters that play a fundamental role in a very common underground feature as the subsidence analysis. The results are compared with those coming from the monitoring data of line 1 of Quito underground. The methodology employed is based on the application of the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) applied to non-linear finite element analysis (NLFEA) carried out in Plaxis 2D. The comparison of the results shows a good agreement in terms of ground movements estimation and maximum settlements and makes this approach very attractive and relatively simple to adjust to other non-linear problems within tunnelling engineering.
