Abstract

Qashqai Turks mainly live in the southern Persian region of Iran especially in provinces like Shiraz and Esfahan. The cities where Qashqai Turks live are: Firozabad, Shiraz, Kazeroon, Noorabad, Abadeh, Shahreza, Semirom, and Gachsaranc. This region has been designated as Qashqai province/ Vilayet-i Qashqai for a long time. Qashqai Turks had been known for their nomadic life until the 1970s; but almost all of them have adopted settled life nowadays. Qashqai Turks are the second largest Turkish minority group after Azerbaijanian Turks. However, sufficient statistics or research studies about this minority group cannot be found in Turkish literature. By contrast, in Iran a body of Qashqai literature has been formed and Qashqai Turks feature in Iranian literature. Within such a context, this article aims to present rich Iranian literature about Qashqai Turks to Turkish academia. In this article we use the scanning method, which is one of the descriptive research methods. Books, post graduate academic theses and other academic theses are the main three reference groups for this article. There are many books and articles about Qashqai Turks in Iranian literature, 241 books, 5 PhD theses, 50 master theses, and 51 academic articles have been written about Qashqai Turks in Iran so far, which mostly focus on literature, history and culture.
