Abstract

The teachers competence in planning a lesson and executing the plan is a crucial factor in the sucess of an instruction. Besides, teachers' subject knowledge, which in Indonesia is measured through teacher competence test (UKG), also plays an important role. This research sought to reveal (1) teachers' competence in planning a lesson, (2) teachers' competence in carrying out the plan, (3) teachers' competence test results, (4) a correlation between teachers' competence in planning a lesson and teachers' competence test results, (5) a correlation between teachers' competence in carrying out the plan and teachers' competence test results, (6) a correlation between teachers' competence in planning a lesson, teachers' competence in carrying out the plan, and teachers' competence test results. This is a descriptive correlational study, using a performance test to gather data regarding teachers' ability to plan a lesson, an observation check sheet to collect data regarding teachers' ability to carry out the lesson plan, and document to gather data regarding competence test results. The research was carried out in Banjarnegara District, taking Mandiraja Sub-district as a sample. Of the 288 Indonesian language teachers in the sub-district the research took 42 as samples, using stratified random sampling. The data analysis used percentage and Pearson Product Moment correlation statistics with α = 0,05. The results showed that (1) the average score of lesson planning was 69.36 with the accomplishment level 70%, which includes into Good category; (2) the average score of teaching reached 70.20 with the accomplishment level 70%, which belonged to Good category; (3) the highest score of UKG was 92.26 and the lowest 41.67 with the average score 66.86, and belonged to Good category; (4) there was a strong correlation between between lesson planning ability and teachers' competence test results, with the correlation coefficient of 0.988; (5) there was a strong correlation between teachers' competence in carrying out the plan and teachers' competence test results, with the correlation coefficient of 0.935; and (6) there was a strong correlation between lesson planning ability, the ability to carry out the lesson plan, and the competence test results, with the correlation coefficient of 0.975.
