Abstract

The effects of tricarboxylic amino acids and lactones derived from kainic acid have been examined on the rat cerebellar cyclic-GMP system, which is activated by excitatory amino acids. The trans tricarboxylic acid possessed agonist activity, while the lactones were moderately potent antagonists, exhibiting greater selectivity for kainate- than for NMDA-receptors.
