Abstract

Speaking skills is an essential skill to be mastered, especially for students who are learning in language courses. Hence, an interactive and communicative approach needs to be applied in language learning classroom. One of the methods suggested is a role-play method whereas students are given a character to play based on given predetermined situation. Accordingly, the main focus of this study is to examine the effectiveness of role-play methods towards students speaking skills in language learning. In addition, this study is also to examine the effects of role-play towards students’ motivation in learning speaking skills in language subject. The findings of the study indicates that the role-play methods improve students’ achievement in speaking skills for language subjects. In addition, the study also found that role-play methods increase students’ motivation in learning speaking skills in language subjects. The results of this study can be used as a guidance for teachings in enhancing the effectiveness of the teaching process of speaking skills in language subjects.
