Abstract

This study presents a Ka-band, multilayer, near-field-focused array antenna combined with the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The metallic circular holes are designed as both phase shifters and radiating elements, which are fed by an SIW feeding network. A side-lobe level (SLL) of less than $-18\;{\rm dB}$ is achieved by properly arranging the dimensions of the metallic circular holes. Besides, by changing the thickness of the hole layer, the antenna with the same feeding network can be adjusted to change its focal point. As an example, an $8\times8$ near-field-focused antenna prototype operated at 35 GHz is fabricated and measured.
