Abstract
The statistical characteristics of rain attenuation in equatorial zone is investigated first. Then in comparison with Loo's (see Proceedings of the IEEE, vol.86, no.7, p.1442-63, 1998) Ka-band weather land mobile satellite (LMS) channel model, a more reasonable LMS channel model incorporated with weather impairments is proposed based on Lutz's (1991) LMS channel model. The PDF of the received signal and BER performance with Loo's and our Ka-band weather LMS channel model is quantified and compared, the effect of weather impairments and rain attenuation on BER performance is also evaluated.
