Abstract

In the crystal structure of K34[Zn20In85] (a = 1827.7(5) pm, c = 3980.5(8) pm, R3̅m, Nr. 166, Z = 3, R1 = 0.056, wR2 = 0.124) the In and Zn atoms form the β-rhombohedral boron structure. The structure contains In84 Samson polyhedra, and clusters of 18 In and 10 Zn atoms, forming three In12 icosahedra sharing two common triangular faces. The potassium atoms occupy the centres of truncated tetrahedra – forming the Samson polyhedra – and Kasper polyhedra.
