Abstract

Power-assist systems have been expected to play an important role in many fields. In the case of power-assist systems for physically weak persons, biological signals such as EMG and EEG signals could be used to estimate motion intention of the user. However, many factors such as individual difference, physical and physiological condition of the user, and noise must be considered to deal with those biological signals. Therefore, some kinds of intelligence are required for the power-assist system to adapt itself to each user. In this paper, the required intelligence is discussed and the methods to realize the required intelligence are explained.
