Abstract

The energies of the $K{\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{1}$, $K{\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{2}$, $K{\ensuremath{\beta}}_{1}$, and $K{\ensuremath{\beta}}_{3}$ x rays of Cm, Bk, Cf, and Es, arising in the decay of suitable parent radioactivities, have been measured with a high-resolution Ge(Li) photon detector. The $K$-shell binding energies of Cm, Bk, and Cf have been determined using previously published values for the ${L}_{\mathrm{II}}$-, ${L}_{\mathrm{III}}$-, ${M}_{\mathrm{II}}$-, and ${M}_{\mathrm{III}}$-shell binding energies. The relative transition probabilities ($K{\ensuremath{\alpha}}_{1}=1000$) of the $K$-series lines have been determined for Cm, Bk, Cf, and Es. The measured energies and relative transition probatilities agree well with recent theoretical predictions.
